University Founded on Jesuit Principles
Mind, body, and spirit: these are the foundations for learning at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. This small, private university is designed around these Catholic Jesuit principles. The brick and mortar campus offers undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate programs to the over 5,000 students that attend courses on campus. A distance-learning program flourishes, as well.
Gonzaga first opened its doors to students in 1887. Although the main campus is located in Spokane, Gonzaga also maintains a campus in Florence, Italy. Gonzaga students and outsiders pursue studies on the Italian campus for its availability to Renaissance art and culture.
Academics
Six academic colleges and schools house over 90 undergraduate degree programs and 21 graduate degrees: College of Arts and Sciences, School of Law, School of Education, School of Business Administration, School of Professional Studies, and School of Engineering and Applied Science. The nursing school is part of the professional studies programs that also includes exercise science, organizational leadership and communication studies.
The academic curriculum at Gonzaga is also grounded in the Jesuit tenets. Degree requirements are such that students must diversify their studies to include coursework from religion, history, philosophy, and the social and physical sciences. Students are also encouraged to take on club or varsity sports.
Community involvement extends to continuing education courses that are open to the public, as well as students. Colleges and universities like Gonzaga have become woven into regional fabric, especially those with a long history.
Online Masters Degrees
Gonzaga's online degree programs are designed to make some of their most relevant and popular graduate degrees accessible to a larger, more global audience. Masters degrees in Organizational Leadership, Communication and Leadership, and Nursing all target the population of working adults that crave career traction. Many traditional colleges and universities have chosen to design and administer small- or large-scale online degree programs. This emphasizes their commitment to education outside the limits of college age students. Online programs also expand business, make it possible to provide educational services to global customer.
Professional nurses may choose from two Masters of Science in Nursing programs: MSN Nursing Education and the MSN Health Systems Leadership.
