Innovative Curriculum for Busy RNs

Keiser University's online RN-BSN degree program is an example of one of the most popular and relevant degrees for today's working RNs. Many nurses choose to begin their careers with a fast-track Associates degree. Two-year nursing degrees kick-start entry-level RNs, give them up-front skills-centric know-how necessary to get in on the ground floor in most hospitals and a few other healthcare settings. However, should Associates degreed RNs wish to parlay their nursing know-how into brighter nurse careers, however, most require a completed Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree; and this where the RN-BSN completion degree enters.

BSN degreed RNs have infinite career possibility. There are critical nursing shortages in almost every specialty and in every level of healthcare. The problem is addressed with every RN that earns a higher degree. Bachelor's degreed nurses may take their nursing expertise to almost any level, as well as access graduate degrees and more lucrative nursing careers. At the very least nurses with BSN degrees are prepared to tackle entry-level management roles, such as those of unit educator and charge nurse. Patient care delivery shifts, as well, from supportive to more direct and proactive, indicating that an inherent part of BSN education is accepting decision-making responsibilities.

Requirements for Admission to the RN-BSN Program

Applicants for the online RN-BSN degree program through Keiser University must have a two-year, Associates degree from an accredited nursing program, as well as a valid RN license. Advisors review each applicant's transcripts and in some cases may decide a candidate must complete one or more prerequisite courses to bring their knowledge level with the BSN program.

Curriculum

Keiser's RN-BSN degree is 60-credit hours in length, but delivers a comprehensive baccalaureate in nursing program. Where Associates degrees are heavy on skills and short on theory, the BSN instead fills in the blanks in nursing theory, introduces basic leadership and management information, and pushes skills to intermediate levels. Coursework includes: pathophysiology, nursing informatics, ethics and healthcare policies, leadership and management, and community, gerontological, and family health nursing. Courses unique to Keiser include writing and communication for nursing leaders, crisis intervention, role of diet and nutrition in healthcare, advanced research and statistics, and critical thinking skills for nurses.

Career Opportunity

Log on to any nursing job board and the need for BSNs is unquestioned. The Keiser program provides a contemporary perspective, savvy coursework designed to prepare nurses to fill the latest jobs in a variety of healthcare settings.
